If you want to feel like royalty on your wedding day, this is the NYC venue for you! With a maximum guest count of 180, the Burden Kahn Mansion wedding venue feels exclusive, intimate, and luxurious. As a testament to this venue’s versatility, these couples pulled together two very different wedding styles – equally breathtaking – at the same venue. You may have also heard of this stunning venue called the Convent of Sacred Heart, so first, we’ll start with a bit of history to clarify.

A beautiful estate mansion wedding in the heart of New York City

The Otto Kahn Mansion was originally a private home designed by two of the most renowned architects in the country, C.P.H. Gilbert and J. Armstrong Stenhouse. The estate owner asked that they spare no expense to fulfill his grand vision. Based on the incredibly ornate details, he meant what he said – no expense spared. As you gaze at the intricate crown molding, gold details, and large tapestries, you can’t help but look around in awe.

The mansion’s exterior is just as extravagant as the interior. Crafted from French limestone imported from St. Quentin, the grand white walls look magnificent against the surrounding greenery. The light-colored interior is crafted of gorgeous Caen stone. Otto Kahn wanted to emulate the beauty of sixteenth-century Italian architecture – and he nailed it flawlessly! It endures as an elegant and timeless New York City landmark.

The adjacent James Burden Mansion completes the magnificent duo, better known as the Burden Kahn Mansions. The Burden mansion has a rotunda and hand-painted dome ceiling with a stained-glass skylight. The creation is reminiscent of the Sistine Chapel and is undoubtedly a sight. This mansion also contains a picturesque French-inspired ballroom.

In conclusion, the Convent of the Sacred Heart purchased both mansions for the location of their private girls’ school, which remains today.

Weddings at Convent of the Sacred Heart

As far as photography composition, few indoor places can compare to these combined mansions. The white-marbled spiral staircase, black iron railing, and carefully decorated rooms provide unique angles, texture, and lighting. Huge open windows bring in bright natural sunlight. You can guarantee your wedding photos will be one-of-a-kind at Convent of the Sacred Hearts. I especially love the many options for a romantic first look.

Outdoor and Indoor Event Spaces

Throughout the mansions, you’ll find sparkling chandeliers and large windows across Central Park. The white chapel-like room makes this the perfect venue for a wedding. The couple and their guests will feel like royalty in this grand home with a shaded balcony that overlooks the treetops. This venue even accommodates outdoor ceremonies – or an al fresco cocktail space. Beautiful white limestone walls and overhanging balconies surround the courtyard. It is a blank slate for ceremony décor and can accommodate up to 120 ceremony guests or 180 for cocktails.

One of my favorite places to take intimate bride-and-groom photos is the Central Park Overlook connected to the Kahn mansion. It’s so peaceful, and the breeze brings extra life and energy to the photos—very complementary to the more luxurious indoor portraits.
